We released “Rumble” on the 20th of April. Let me tell you something about the making of this track!
This song was made in collaboration with Joran Elane, who recorded the backing vocals. I asked to collaborate with her some time ago, because I was impressed by her almost Enya-ish sound. Once I started creating Rumble, I knew this was going to be the song I’d invite her to join and I’m happy she agreed!
The melody of Rumble was originally called “Descending from Oslo”. After writing the song and singing it for some months, I started to realise that it’s not just a love song, but the beginning kept bringing a giant troll to mind that descends from his lair up in the mountains down to Oslo and the fjord it’s in. So I decided to rewrite and re-record the entire thing under this new name.
Evelien, also known as Eef, composed and recorded the harp. Her touch gives this song something truly magical and the day we recorded this was not just a lot of fun, but also the first sunny day for weeks. She poured her heart and soul into this song and it has given the recording something heartfelt and emotional.
I also had a lot of fun during the creation of the music video. I found some art by Igor Sarnavka that I was allowed to use and some statues from JunovaDesign’s Etsy shop to animate. The whole thing has gotten quite a “Droomvlucht” Efteling vibe and I like it!
LYRICS
When the moon shines
and the world calls
He’s descending from his home
When the moon shines
and a star falls
He’ll be chasing that strange glow
Still seasons change
Still time flies
As boulders break
‘neath the nightsky
A heart aches
From up high
Descends and stays
In this first light
Rumble! Rumble!
Aaahh aahh ah
Rumble… Rumble…
Where the stream flows,
there is a story
While he walks, how he listens
Where the stream flows,
he splashes and journeys
Under skies where stars glisten.
Still seasons change
Still time flies
As boulders break
‘neath the nightsky
A heart aches
From up high
Descends and stays
In this first light
The sun rises
over the North Sea
Rumble stands by the cliff face
The sun rises
right where these two meet
Stands in stone there to this day
Still seasons change
Still time flies
As boulders break
‘neath the nightsky
A heart aches
From up high
Descends and stays
In this first light
